We Perform X-Rays on Site at Our Walk-In Clinic in Tampa, FL
An X-ray is a diagnostic test that uses low-dose electromagnetic radiation to create pictures of internal body structures. The radiation waves easily pass through soft tissues such as muscles and tendons, which show up as gray areas in the resulting images. However, the waves are blocked by dense tissues such as bones and joints, which show up as white or opaque. As such, X-rays can be useful for diagnosing broken bones, dislocated joints, and hard swallowed objects, such as coins and marbles.
Unlike many other walk-in clinics in Tampa, Florida, South Tampa Immediate Care offers state-of-the-art digital X-ray imaging services on site. This means we can often expedite the diagnostic process by eliminating the need for our patients to travel to an off-site radiology center or an ER for non-emergency X-rays. Our walk-in clinic is an excellent choice when you need prompt medical attention for a non-life-threatening health issue.
What Do X-Rays Involve?
When performing a diagnostic X-ray, a medical practitioner will position the patient so that the part of his or her body being examined is placed between a focused, high-energy beam and an X-ray-sensitive plate. After passing through the patient’s body, the beams will strike the photographic plate. The data captured during the exam is immediately transferred to a computer and can be displayed for viewing on an attached monitor. Typically, the entire process takes only a few minutes from start to finish.
When Are X-Rays Needed?
A provider at South Tampa Immediate Care may order one or more X-rays to:
- More closely examine a painful area of the body
- Monitor a previously diagnosed condition, such as osteoarthritis
- Evaluate the effectiveness of a prescribed medication
Our state-of-the-art medical facility is fully equipped to treat broken bones, sprains, strains, and other non-emergency injuries and illnesses. Additionally, if an X-ray we perform indicates a need for specialized or emergency care, we can provide a referral.
