What Is Sprintec?

Available by prescription, Sprintec is a combined oral contraceptive that contains two female hormones: estrogen and progesterone. It is also a monophasic form of birth control, which means all active tablets contain the same dose of hormones.

A month’s supply of Sprintec comes in a 28-day pack, which includes 21 active tablets and seven inactive tablets. The active tablets are blue, and the inactive tablets are white, which makes them easy to tell apart. For the first 21 days, one active pill is taken daily. For the remaining seven days, one inactive tablet is taken daily. When the tablets are taken at the same time every day, Sprintec can reliably prevent pregnancy.
