Receive Your DOT Physical in Tampa, FL
If you are applying for or renewing your commercial driver’s license (CDL), you will need to have a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical performed by a licensed medical examiner who is included in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. The goal of a DOT physical is to confirm that you are healthy enough to operate a large motor vehicle without putting yourself or anyone else at risk.
You can receive your DOT physical at South Tampa Immediate Care in Tampa, Florida. We do not require an appointment for this or any other service, although you are welcome to enter our virtual waiting room if you would like to further streamline your visit with us.
What to Expect During Your DOT Physical Exam
Your DOT physical at South Tampa Immediate Care will include:
- A medical history review (you will be asked to complete a questionnaire in advance)
- A cardiovascular screening
- A vision test
- A hearing test
- An ear, nose, and throat exam
- A reflex test
- A urine-based glucose test
If your medical examiner determines that you are physically qualified to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle, you will receive a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC). The MEC will be valid for up to 24 months. (It may expire sooner if your medical examiner determines that it is necessary to monitor a chronic health issue, such as high blood pressure, more frequently.) You can then submit the MEC to your employer and continue with the hiring process or review.
